Butyrate loves your gut! This short chain fatty acid “postbiotic” feeds a healthy gut lining.
BodyBio Sodium Butyrate is your #1 gut health postbiotic, the naturally occurring form suitable for most people and the most widely used in research. Butyrate is one of the essential short chain fatty acids commonly produced by the gut microbiome in the colon when fed resistant starch. It is this “postbiotic” output – in other words, the beneficial substances produced by our gut microbes that support and nourish our health - that we strive to cultivate from a healthy gut environment.
Butyrate supports:
- A healthy gut lining & mucosal barrier
- Colonocyte cellular energy (feeding the cells lining the large intestine)
- Resilience from gut-disrupting toxic exposure
- Healthy digestive function, including bowel regularity
- A balanced microbiome and healthy yeast levels
- Balanced gas production reducing the sensation of uncomfortable distension
- Metabolic health, fat utilisation, balanced weight and blood sugar levels
- Cellular energy and healthy detoxification
- Healthy aging
- Whole body health: liver, gallbladder, immune, cardiovascular and neurological function
BodyBio Butyrate Provides:
- 1200mg Butyrate (butyric acid) per 2 capsule serve
- 313.3mg Sodium per serve
- 100% vegan, vegetarian and keto friendly
- Guaranteed non-GMO, gluten free, glyphosphate free
What is the difference between Sodium Butyrate vs Calcium Magnesium Butyrate?
Essentially, the only difference between both BodyBio forms of Butyrate is the mineral used to attach the butyrate salt to, being either sodium + butyric acid, or calcium + magnesium + butyric acid. Other than that there is no intrinsic difference between the health effects of the formulations, both provide the same health benefits of butyrate. Every serve of BodyBio Butyrate provides 1.2g of butyric acid.
Which is right for me?
The choice comes down to your preference for one mineral over another. Sodium butyrate is the most commonly used form and is the one most often used in scientific research. It’s the option we recommend most people take. It’s also helpful for people who require additional sodium, such as POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome). However, some people may have a health preference to avoid any extra or unnecessary sodium intake. In these cases, the best option is the calcium + magnesium format which provides additional relaxation support for the musculoskeletal and nervous system tissues.
Butyrate fun facts!
- Butyrate is supposed to smell! That’s right, that infamous scent that butyrate is known for is because this molecule is naturally produced in the body by gut bacteria to feed our colonic cells. BodyBio Butyrate is formed exactly as its formed in the colon, through bacterial fermentation of resistant starch. There are no fillers or additives to mask the natural scent.
- Butyrate is not the same as a probiotic! Instead, butyrate is considered a “postbiotic” – the beneficial molecules produced by gut bacteria to benefit our health. It is a short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) that provides an important fuel and energy source for colonocytes, the cells that line the colon. This fuel helps nourish colonocytes and supports a healthy, functional gut lining that is selectively permeable as Nature intended, and definitely not leaky!
- Butyrate can be found in foods, but not in high enough quantities to be useful. Resistant starches like unripe bananas, cooked and cooled potatoes and rice, legumes and grains; fermented foods like sauerkraut and dairy products such as butter and hard chesses all contain a very small quantity of butyrate in the form of butyric acid but in very small and insignificant quantities for health. This is why supplementation is recommended.
